Jamaica Here I Come!

Hi everyone, just a few updates. Tomorrow I leave for Jamaica to photograph the Dougherty-Murphy wedding and I could not be more excited!  It seems like this came up so fast, when in reality it's been months of planning (mainly on their part).  The more I look at photos of the resort the more excited I become.  I've never been to an all inclusive resort before, nor have I been to Jamaica.  Also, it's the first wedding that I'll shooting on the beach and I know there will be PLENTY of amazing photo opportunities.  Kristin and Jeff are such a nice couple and this wedding sounds very relaxed.  The ceremony will be held on the beach with cocktail hour and dinner following (also on the beach).  Well, that's the plan anyway, things may change if the weather acts up a bit.

They've told me plenty of times that they want me to have fun and not just work the entire time.  In fact, Jeff even said "pina colada in one hand, camera in the other"  although, I don't think that will be advisable haha.  After dinner I think everyone will just head to one of the resort bars to hang out and enjoy themselves some more.  I'll definitely have plenty of down time, which will most likely be spent laying on the beach and swimming/ snorkeling in the ocean and taking advantage of the beach side chair service the resort offers.

I feel so lucky to be able to do this.  I didn't know Kristin and Jeff at all before they contacted me to shoot their engagement photos and wedding.  It's an opportunity I've always dreamed of (to do a destination wedding) but I never thought I'd get one this early in my career and am extremely grateful so happy they chose me to do so.

This is the resort I'll be staying at, I'm sure I'll be taking plenty of photos of not only the wedding but the surrounding area as well.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a nice long holiday weekend and a Happy early 4th of July!

The Runaway

Model: Thalia Scagliola
Photos: Kate Barnes Photography

I found the vintage suitcase at a thrift store in Rhode Island and got it for $8.00!  Lucky find, or at least I think so.  The vest was actually my mother's when she was in college, it's nice that she still had it and I could incorporate it into some of my photos.

The Runaway

This image is a composite of over 30 shots.  I decided to try a method I had been reading about which would give the look of an image shot with a wide angle lens but with SOOO much more depth than what you could actually achieve using a true wide angel lens.  I shot each image at 70 mm and then composited them together.  To give you a better idea of what the images were like on their own, I'll put a shot of Thalia that I used in the image.

As you can see, that's the center image of the whole scene.  This was my first time trying it and I'm pretty happy with the end result, even if it's not the most interesting of images.  I'll post another picture of what a similar shot would have been like using a wide angle lens (about 24 mm) at a later date!

Easy as 1,2,3!

I am pleased to announce that I now have a client proofing website.  Once I work everything out, clients will be able to purchase prints, cds, etc. directly from the site making it not only easier for me, but for my clients.

Albums for client proofing will have individualized access codes and passwords creating a much more client friendly environment.  I will also eventually be providing access to purchase fine art and limited edition prints of some of my work.  I'm definitely excited to finally user friendly, functional site for my clients to use!

Have a look around, I'd love some feedback and suggestions!  (keep in mind print purchases and such have not been enabled yet)

Hello All! Little updates

I know I've had a lack of posts lately, I've been quite busy with editing wedding photos, family sessions and engagement sessions as well as trying to fit a few social events into the mix.  I'll be making a post within the next week or two with shots from Jeannine and Kevin's lovely wedding from May.

I'm hoping to squeeze in a few personal, more fashion based photo shoots soon.  I'm on the hunt for models, makeup artists, hairstylists and possibly even wardrobe stylists interested in collaborating.  I'm really hoping I can hook up with boutiques or even local designers either in Maryland or in the New England area since fashion based photography is something I'd really love to get more into.  Working on that portfolio has taken a back seat to other shoots I've been doing, so I'm hoping to work on a it a bit in the free time I may get.

In exciting news, I've been meeting with Kristin (the bride who's wedding I'll be shooting in Jamaica) and figuring out all the last minute details for her and Jeff's wedding at the beginning of July.  It's so exciting to be shooting a destination wedding, especially somewhere I've never been before!

If anyone knows of anyone who may be interested in modeling for me, please feel free to pass on my information to them.  I'm looking for people with some experience OR people who are very comfortable in front of the camera and don't need constant direction.  I'm also looking for makeup/hairstyles/wardrobe stylists.  Unfortunately I cannot give monetary compensation, but I will however give images for portfolios, etc.

Finally, I'd be extremely grateful if everyone could take a few seconds to share my facebook page with family, friends, etc.  I'd really appreciate it!

That's it for now, I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather!
